Holy Musical B@man!

Holy Musical B@man!

AVPM, MAMD, AVPS, just when I thought Team Starkid was as totally awesome as possible, they bring out Holy Musical B@man!

Holy Musical B@man is EPIC! There’s no other word for, it it’s simply epic. Well, it’s also amazing, hilarious, punderful (yes, that’s a word now) and supermegafoxyawesomehot (I love how I’ve thought spellcheck to recognise that). So really, there’s a lot of words that could describe it (Three cheers for hypocrisy! *cheer, cheer, cheer*)

Seriously though, it’s extremely punderful. Only Starkid could make the following exchanges funny:

“We heard you were hatching a scheme Egghead!

We’ve cracked the case!

It’s over. Yeah, over-easy!

SCRAMBLE!“

I was a bit apprehensive at first about the whole “Batman” theme. I’ve never seen Batman, and I don’t really know anything about it, other than what I’ve gleaned from tumblr. But all my worrying was for nothing, trust me when I say, you don’t need to know a THING about Batman to enjoy this musical.

Ok, now for the music. Oh the music, I know I’ve gushed about the Starkids’ musical talent before, but I’m going to do so again anyway.

It’s indescribable, how catchy these songs are. I’ve been singing them nonstop since 5am this morning, when I finished watching it. I’ve only watched it once, yet the music is already firmly rooted in my brain. There’s just something about Team Starkid that makes it the most spirit-lifting music. I mean, who can help but sing along, and feel happy at “Superfriends”? You would have to be MAD not to love that song!

Speaking of mad, let’s get to the villains. Sweet-Tooth is one creepily impressive guy. He’s played by a brand new Starkid, called Jeff Blim. Let me just tell you, he is thoroughly deserving of his membership of Team Starkid. And as for Sweet tooth, how is it possible to fit that much candy in one pink suit jacket? And how many pockets were in that thing?! I liked (though I probably shouldn’t have) Jaime Lyn Beatty’s character, Candy. She’s just one of those characters, I guess. Hmmmm, what other villains were there? Well, the aforementioned Egghead, was pretty good. Oh, Calender Man, was pretty awesome! He was played by (The epic) Lauren Lopez, and he (she?) also had quite a few puns up his (her?) sleeve!

“Calender man, your days are numbered!

Well well, looks like today‘s not your lucky day!

Boxing day’s coming early! I’m going to punch you week-lings into next month!

Come at me you April Fool!”

As for the heroes, I know Batman’s the main character, but personally, I prefer superman. I know from reading some of the YouTube comments, that I’m not the only one, but just to let everyone know, I liked him before he was played by Brian Holden. Just sayin’…

Batman was played by Joe Walker, and let me tell you, he did not disappoint. I was looking forward to actually have him star in a musical with his actual voice, but after seeing it, I take that back. I like his Batman voice… He was brilliant as Voldemort, he was amazing as Umbridge, and he was epic as Batman.

Robin was even better though…

Played by Nick Lang, he was excellent. He was that character that you can’t help laughing at, even when he’s just standing there. I meant that as a good thing, but I’m not sure it came out right. So just for the record, I DON’T THINK ROBIN SUCKS! (You’ll need to see the musical, to get that!) He also has some extremely awesome green, winged Converses…

Just to point this out, Team Starkid must have cleared out several stores of all their knee-high Converses, and underwear… I’m not sure if I’m the only one who noticed that, but just for the record, I want those Converses. Watch it and you shall understand…

What else? Ah yes, the one disappointment, Joey Richter did not make an appearance. I. Was.Gutted…

That’s about it for now, so until next time just remember:

ONLY Starkid can make egg puns epic, and jazz hands make everything better…

A Very Potter Musical…

A Very Potter Musical, by Team Starkid!

For those that don’t know, A Very Potter Musical is a fan made musical, by a group of super-awesome people called Team Starkid. These amazing people, took one long hard look at the Harry Potter fandom, and decided to blow our minds, by making a musical. Well probably. They could have just been really bored or something, I just made that last bit up…

But they did make a musical. They made an awesome musical. Totally awesome even. Maybe even supermegafoxyawesomehot…

That’s beside the point (Though it is totally awesome).

The point is, I’m trying to review it, and it’s awesomeness is getting in the way.

Basically, this musical is one of the best things that ever happened to HP fandom, apart from the books themselves (obviously). To briefly describe it, it’s a musical that mashes up a few of the plots from a few of the books, starkidifys them (yes that is a word), and adds in some of the most totally awesome music known to fandoms.

Starring Darren Criss, Joey Richter, Bonnie Gruesen, (the totally awesome) Lauren Lopez, Joe Walker, and too many others to list, A Very Potter Musical has been up on YouTube, for about 2 years now.

Darren Criss is a brilliant Harry, Joey Richter as Ron, was really really good, as was Bonnie Gruesen as Hermoine, but they’re not the real star sof the show (sorry!).

Joey Richter, Darren Criss and Bonnie Gruesen as Ron, Harry and Hermoine

I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m huge (That’s right, bold and italic… *gasp*) Lauren Lopez fan. She had all the best lines, and she really delivered.S he’s an amazing Draco Malfoy, and I don’t think I can write (type?) anything here that can stress that enough. I for one, would love to see her and Tom Felton have a chat some day…

Another amazing performance (*trying to sound like a quality reviewer*) was that of Brian Rosenthal as Professor Quirrell and Joe Walker as Voldemort. They also had more than their fair share of great lines, and to put it bluntly, they were brilliant. Before watching AVPM, it never even crossed my mind to ship Quirrelmort, but now I do. They’re just that awesome.

Brian Rosenthal and Joe Walker as Professor Quirrell and Voldemort.

Joe Moses as Snape was absurdly awesome in every way. Thanks to Dylan Saunders, since watching AVPM, I have never been able to read the word “Dumbledore” without seeing the High School Musical shirt.

The Shirt...

Then there’s the music. Though “music” seems like too mainstream a word for it. These are possibly the catchiest songs you will ever hear, and I assure you, you will find yourself humming them at the most inappropriate of times. “Voldemort is goin’ down” at a funeral anybody? I’ve done that…

I’ve already signed two petitions over the past two years (more of a crumpled sheet with a few illegible names on it really) to have AVPM be our school musical. The first time the teachers just laughed and kicked us out of the staff room, but the second time, they actually bothered to look Team Starkid up online. Unfortunately, if we put on the musical, they (and the school) might get sued, so I guess that means no Potterness for my school*sob*.

So I’m about done with this post now. Spell check is telling me at least half od the words in this post are spelt “wrong”, and also, I think I’ve said awesome far too much, but that’s how it’s going to be. Oh, and here are the links to the musicals (Yes plural, there’s a sequel!) themselves:

A Very Potter Musical, Act 1 Part 1

A Very Potter Sequel, Act 1 Part 1

So check them out! There’s a bit of language in them, and your granny may not appreciate some of the humour, but I for one, find them hilarious!

So until next time just remember:

You can’t just GO to Pigfarts, and jazz hands make everything better…

Quarantine…

Quarantine, by James Phelan

I think this is the last “Alone” book. Think being the operative word there. I had no idea whilst reading it that the ending would be so final, nor that the entire matter would be “resolved” so fast. Because it was fast…

It’s not a long book, it’s easy enough to read in one sitting. At the start, Jesse is where we left him at the end of “Survivor”, that is at the zoo, with Rachel and Felicity. “Quarantine” focuses on Jesse’s hunt for an escape from the apocalyptic New York, and his hunt for other survivors. He is specifically searching for the group of survivors previously mentioned by Caleb, who live (It’s more like “squat with style” really) in Chelsea Pier.

The plot was quite good, but as previously mentioned, it is a short book, so with that in mind, the plot was excellent, as it was all packed in so well. Phelan managed to tell quite the story, in quite a short space. Props to him for that…

Normally, it’s a bad thing if I can’t remember the name of the main character, but in this case, that’s the effect of the outstanding first person narrative. Jesse is the main character, and a good one at that. Even when faced with situations such as the ones he goes through (I’m trying to leave out the spoilers), he doesn’t become one of those weepy, self-pitying characters, that almost everyone else hates. *cough* Bella *cough*. No, Jesse deals with the cards he’s been handed, and though he later mourns his actions, he gets over it. Which in his case probably isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially in an apocalyptic city, filled with chasers. (Zombie like creatures) Or so I’ve heard, unfortunately I don’t have any firsthand experience in that area. *sigh*

It is an excellent book, though I’ve one or two bones to pick.

Firstly, Jesse’s search for Caleb is a tad unrealistic, and at times confusing. This probably isn’t true for everyone, but I found that I had to read over Jesse’s “confrontations” with Caleb a few times, just to process them. They seemed a bit rushed, but I guess ultimately they got the point across, which was probably Phelan’s objective. They could have been explained a bit better in the end though…

Then there was the escape plan. I won’t go into detail, for risk of spoilers, but it was pretty good, and definitely unexpected. I was expecting a lot more from that particular plotline, and I was quite disappointed when it was let fall by the wayside. In light of other events, I guess it’s slightly less important, and slightly unimportant towards the end of the story, and I suppose that’s to be expected…

Overall, “Quarantine” is a very good book, and that’s why I’m going to give it three eyebrows up out of five…

So until next time just remember:

It pays to be tough in an apocalyptic city, and jazz hands make everything better…

Divergent…

Divergent, by Veronica Roth

It’s good.

Oh it’s very good.

Divergent is a book that I’d been meaning to read for a few months, but hadn’t got around to it. It’s been sitting in my “to be read” pile since Christmas, but I only read it today. I regret not reading it the second it came into my possession…

Divergent follows Tris (Beatrice) as she chooses her faction. In this dystopian world, factions are the 5 groups within the society. They’re called Abnegation, Dauntless, Candor, Amity and Erudite. Most people are only suited to one faction, but Tris is suited to three. This means she is a Divergent, and that if the wrong people find this out, she will be killed. Of course along the way, there’s all the usual, friends, foes, romance etc etc etc…

But don’t let my less than sufficient description faze you, it’s actually an extremely good read. I would definitely recommend it.

So until next time just remember:

Dystopian fiction is possibly the best genre, and Jazz hands make everything better…

Wow…

I logged on today, to find 10 times the usual amount of views. Why?

Micheal Grant tweeted about me! (ie. The blog)

The twitter machine...

Just thought I’d make a short post about it to brag.

Bad joke of the day:

What happened to the plumber who was working on top of the skyscraper?

He plunged to his death! (harharhar)

So until next time just remember:

I’m clearly the boss of Twitter by now, and Jazz hands make everything better…
